Located in Perry Township, Franklin County, Acton Camp Ground is a 40-acre tract that has been serving as a Methodist campground since its establishment in 1859. Interestingly, the town was originally called Farmersville before being renamed after local resident General Acton when the post office opened in 1854.

During its early days, Acton developed into a bustling trading center with various businesses including general stores, blacksmith shops, lumber yards, feed mills, canning factories, banks, lodge halls, churches, and homes. The town's strategic location adjacent to the nearly completed Cincinnati and Indianapolis Railroad in 1852 made it an attractive spot for settlers.

In addition to its commercial activities, Acton was also home to several stage stops, including Smither Tavern, which was located just west of the village. This early settlement was home to William Rector, who is believed to be the township's earliest settler. Rector's land lay along Buck Creek, where he built his cabin and later became a justice of the peace in 1824.
